It's accepted that around 18 percent of Americans, or about one in every five people, has a type of panic disorder, be it PTSD, panic attacks, OCD, or something entirely different. Due to the fact that such a enormous percentage of the United States is afflicted with these conditions, doctors and scientists are always looking for new anxiety cures every single month. This is exciting news for many who feel the symptoms of such disorders and are curious about if there is anything that can be done about treating anxiety attacks.

While there are medications that might passify a sufferer with one of these disorders, anxiety treatments are not usually found in a bottle. Drugs like Zoloft or Paxil can help a lot, however many sufferers with these disorders are also asked to use some kind of cognitive or behavioral treatment as well.

One of the foremost reasons that therapy is such a crucial part of any anxiety attack treatment is that even though panic can be started by chemical imbalances in the brain, it can also be induced by the way sufferers process and see situations. For example, if they believe that new people they meet will judge them harshly, then they can start to experience social anxiety. By exploring new and more balanced ways of viewing future social events or meetings, then this alternate manner of processing starts being part of their anxiety cure. The discomfort is scaled down if the person believes that get togethers, presentations, speeches, and things like these will go well. If they accept that new people will approve of them, then they will experience less angst.

These forms of anxiety cures may be helpful with many other forms of anxiety, such as panic attacks. If an individual learns to see that they are simply going through a panic attack and that there simply is nothing the matter with them and nothing to be anxious about, this could help to deminish the panic at least somewhat.

These forms of mental anxiety cures are far from a silver bullet and might not be effective in every case, but they might be useful. While counselors exert themselves to perfect their anxiety treatments and drugs, finding new modes of understanding and of dealing with your condition can go a long way toward helping you to get past it. If someone is not offered the right anxiety cure for their situation, at minimum they can be sure that their disorder won't unnecessarily disturb their daily routine.

What is Brazilian Jiu-jitsu?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Brazilian jiu-jitsu and its martial art techniques have their roots in Japanese judo. The beginning of their history can be found in a martial arts group called Kodokan. The decision of this group to send out their followers to the rest of the world to share their teachings would have a major impact on the future of mixed martial arts tournaments. In the beginning of the twentieth century, one of these followers reached Brazil and began spreading the knowledge that he had obtained through years of training. An important meeting between this man, Mitsuyo Maeda, and a Brazilian man would change the course of fighting history.

One of the people that Maeda associated with was a man with the last name Gracie. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is highly associated with the Gracie name and this is where it began. Carlos Gracie began learning from Maeda and then in 1921, passed his knowledge on to his brothers, including the youngest, Hlio. Hlio adapted the teachings so that he, as a smaller man, could defeat much larger opponents. This became a key part of jiu-jitsu and would be shown again and again in tournaments that size really does not matter in combat.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu got its name when the Gracies came to America. In 1978, Hlio's son, Rorion Gracie, moved to California and began teaching jiu-jitsu out of his garage. Eventually, he was able to open a proper jiu-jitsu academy as word spread about his abilities and people learned more about the history of this fighting style. The Gracie Challenge was issued to any fighter in order to prove just how superior this fighting style was. Rorion and his fighters defeated many others from different fighting styles and the reputation of this form of jiu-jitsu continued to grow.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu exploded across the world in the early 1990s, with the creation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship tournaments. These were mixed martial arts fights that were largely no-holds-barred events that paired fighters of different disciplines. Royce Gracie jumped to fame and success by winning three of the first four tournaments, mainly by defeating opponents far larger than he and through submission holds on the ground. It became obvious that his martial art techniques were far superior to those of other disciplines and Brazilian jiu jitsu academies sprang up across North America.

The Gracies can take pride in having taken the secrets and techniques from judo masters of Japan, and bringing them to excellent use beyond anyone's expectations. Brazilian jiu-jitsu might not have had the impact on the fighting world that it has had, if Hlio Gracie had not looked for ways to improve upon the techniques shared by Maeda. Through each generation the Gracies have made strides to continue the history of this martial art through the jiu jitsu schools they run and the fights they win.

There is now little doubt about the health benefits of Omega3 oils. These have been well publicised recently and more and more people are becoming aware that the vast majority of us are deficient in our Omega3 fatty acid intake. Of course these essential fatty acids are found in fish oil which comes from fish, but how do we increase our intake of omega 3 when fish is contaminated with Mercury?

There has been a study published this year which has looked at Mercury contamination of fish in the North Pacific Ocean. It found that the level of Mercury in the North Pacific has increased 30 percent over 10 years from 1996 to 2006.

Not only that but it also concluded that around 40 percent of all Mercury exposure of people in the US came from tuna consumption from tuna caught in the Pacific.

This is seriously worrying, because you do not want to be eating too much Mercury. It is a neurotoxin and it has serious health implications for adults, but in particular for the fetus and for infants.

Atmospheric production of Mercury as well as Mercury leakage from Asia were the major ways that it was found that Mercury made its way into the oceans. It is found in the oceans as methylmercury, and is found in our tuna because it starts at the bottom of the food chain and works it's way up right up to fish at the top of the food chain like shark and tuna. And we eat shark and tuna.

This creates a dilemma for people who recognise our inadequate levels of Omega3 intake in our diets and you wish to increase their intake of fish to increase their intake of omega3 oils. By eating more fish, whilst increasing your intake of essential fatty acids, you also increasing your exposure to Mercury.

Fish is expensive and is also a declining resource. Is there a better way of increasing your intake of essential fatty acids other than eating expensive fish? Yes there is.

A much better way that is both more cost-effective and safer than eating more fish is by daily supplementation with omega3 supplements. These can be called fish oil supplements, and the best fish oil supplements are much more cost-effective than eating fish and are also free of contamination with Mercury. Large numbers of people now recognize this and the sales of omega3 supplements are increasing faster than any other nutritional supplement in history.

However if you like eating fish, you recognize the expense involved from eating fish and that you may be increasing your Mercury levels then eating fish is a good way to increase your intake of Omega3 fats. But if you don't like fish, if you don't want to undertake the extra expense of buying fish and you prefer not to take more Mercury in your diet then there is a much more cost effective and safer alternative, namely fish oil supplements.

But it's worth saying that there are big variations between the different brands of omega 3 supplements, with the best fish oil capsules having more than 2 1/2 times as much omega 3 fats as average fish oil supplements.

If you'd like to find out how to compare the different omega3 supplements available then you can do so on my website.

There are excellent reasons why mice and millions of American women should be using natural moisturisers.

Recently a study was published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. In this study scientists were interested to find out if caffeine could cause cancer in mice. As a part of the study each mouse had a moisturiser applied to it's skin 5 times a day for 17 weeks.

Although this was not being studied, the researchers were surprised to find that the application of these moisturisers on the skin of the mice "increased the total number of histologically characterized tumors by 69%". In other words the mice that received the moisturiser had a very significant increase in their rate of skin cancer.

So let's look a little closer at this study and find out why so many mice, and millions of women in America who use moisturisers as part of their daily skin care routine should be more seriously considering a natural moisturiser rather than the moisturiser they may use now.

Dermabase, Dermovan, Eucerin, or Vanicream were the moisturisers applied to the skin of the mice. All of these moisturisers containing sodium lauryl sulphate (SLF) and mineral oil.

Mineral oil is a very common ingredient in many personal products that you may use every day including cosmetics, skin care and anti aging products. It is a petrochemical product which means that it comes from crude oil and it has been linked to various cancers as well as other health problems. The reason mineral oil is used extensively is because it is extremely cheap.

Sodium lauryl sulphate is more well known as an ingredient in many soaps and shampoos, and many people avoid soaps and shampoos containing sodium lauryl sulphate because there is significant evidence that it is bad for your health and can even lead to cancer. But what is less well known is that sodium lauryl sulphate can also be found in many moisturisers.

Of course the fact that moisturisers containing mineral oil and sodium lauryl sulphate were used on the mice, and that the mice contracted skin cancer, doesn't prove that the sodium lauryl sulphate or the mineral oil caused the skin cancer. Nevertheless it is still a worrying conclusion. To establish the exact cause of the skin cancer would require more study. But it may have you sufficiently worried to more seriously consider using a natural moisturiser that doesn't contain sodium lauryl sulphate or mineral oil in the future. But there is one more fact about which you should also be aware.

This is the fact. The conclusion from the study, namely that the rate of skin cancer in the mice was significantly increased, surprised the scientists, so much so that they decided to do the experiment again using a more natural moisturiser that didn't contain either sodium lauryl sulphate or mineral oil. And when they redid the study using a more natural moisturiser they found no increase in the rate of skin cancer in the mice.

So you can see that there are good reasons why millions of American women, as well as mice, should be using a much more natural facial moisturiser rather than a moisturiser that they may be using now, which may contain sodium lauryl sulphate and mineral oil.

There are hundreds of personal products, many or most of which contain petrochemical and chemical ingredients which have serious health concerns linked to them, and many of which have been shown to cause cancer. You may have used one of these products today, like your moisturiser.

The good news is that it's perfectly possible to buy excellent natural skin care products which don't use sodium lauryl sulphate or mineral oil or any of the other chemical petrochemical ingredients which are commonly found in mainstream skin care products and which, in many cases, have been linked to various health problems. These natural skin care products use natural ingredients which are safe to use and which work extremely well.

Learn About Misdiagnosis of Cancer

Posted by: | Comments (0)

In our country the most common type of medical malpractice is misdiagnosis of cancer and it is the most life-changing. The Most Frequently Misdiagnosed Cancers

Of the more than 150 types of known cancers, the following are among the most frequently misdiagnosed:

  • Breast cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Renal cancer
  • Ovarian cancer

A misdiagnosis of cancer in any of these instances may result in delayed treatment, the wrong type of treatment, or no treatment at all.

How Misdiagnosis of Cancer Occurs

  • The doctor fails to recognize signs and symptoms of cancer and instead diagnoses a different illness or nothing at all. In these cases, the missed cancer could advance into less treatable stages.
  • The wrong type of cancer is diagnosed by the physician for example, when the patient is diagnosed with breast cancer when it is actually lung cancer. The patient can go through therapy that is not necessary all the while the true source of cancer proceeds to spread.
  • The doctor gives a cancer diagnosis when no cancer is present. For example, if a patient goes through treatments or chemotherapy for breast cancer that they do not even have can be very painful.

Other issues that may factor into a misdiagnosis of cancer include misinterpreted X-rays, biopsies and/or imaging scans as well as a failure to order tests altogether.

Is the Doctor Responsible?

A doctor, lab technicians, radiologists, even healthcare facilities may be held responsible for a misdiagnosis of cancer. Whenever a person feels they were a victim of medical negligence, it is in their best interest to talk to a medical malpractice attorney about the possible liability.

Financial, emotional and physical losses may be awarded to victims of medical malpractice as compensation. This is also accurate for families of patients who died because of cancer misdiagnosis. If the result turns fatal, family members may be able to recover compensation for funeral expenses and loss of a loved one, among others.

If you want to lose belly fat fast, you need to start on the proper kind of workout program. You have to understand what kinds of exercises will build the most muscle. I’ll be honest with you, it can be a little frustrating if you don’t have the right mind set to begin with. But it’ll pass, you’ll see!

I guarantee that it is possible to lose belly fat fast. You just need to be guided on how to get six pack abs and armed with the right tools. That’s precisely what you’re getting today.

Believe me when I say that I’ve had my share of aggravations in the past. The right workout plan didn’t just show up on my doorstep one day. Below you will find a few guiding principles that will aid you in implementing the #1 total workout program for you to lose belly fat:

1. A Nutritionally Packed and Well-Balanced Diet.

This probably isn’t the first time you’ll be hearing this, but I wanted to point out its importance anyway. We all need to be aware what foods we consume on a regular basis. Knowing and understanding the role of nutrients in your workout will only get you to your target much faster.

Keep in mind that the right diet involves low-sugar, high-protein, and sufficient amounts of fat. You can get loads of energy from burning healthy carbs while protein helps you build muscle. Healthy fats (e.g. nuts, avocado, soybeans) can actually help get rid of excess body fat and control your cholesterol levels.

2. A Combination of Full Body Workouts and Abs Targeting Exercises.

It’s true that core-specific exercises will hone in on those hard-to-reach abdominal muscles. But it is important to recognize that full body workouts are indispensable because they help build body resistance and other muscle groups at the same time. If you really want to sculpt nice abs in a month and make the most out of your work out, mix up full body exercises (e.g. weight lifting, yoga, sports) with effective abs-specific workouts (e.g. sit ups, crunches, bicycles).

3. Frequent Training Routine.

Working out everyday is simply too much hard work; not to mention, too intense for your body. To avoid wearing out your muscles or other injuries, it’s best to work out every other day. Don’t hesitate to try new things and include various kinds of physical activity in between workout days. This will provide your body enough time to recoup from any muscle strains.

4. Taking Necessary Breaks after Consecutive Workout Weeks.

Taking a week off after training hard consecutively for 12 weeks should give your body the chance to recharge, relax, and reboot. Don’t think for one second that your body will just go back to being flabby once you’ve taken a week off from working out. For as long as you keep your diet healthy, you’ll be fine.

Just like any overworked piece of machinery, allowing your muscles to recover from the past 12 weeks of rigorous work will prepare them for even more intense training later on. Meanwhile, you also give your joints, connective tissues, and even your mind a long-deserved break.

I know from personal experience that this program will help you immensely in your quest to lose belly fat. The truth about abs: by just following these 4 basic techniques, you can get washboard abs. This program not only strives to get you a well-defined physique, but it also promotes overall wellness and strength development. Go ahead and get the body you truly deserve!

3 Ways to Naturally Train Your Brain

Posted by: | Comments (0)

When it comes to brain power, we can all use a little more of it. After all, with all of the information bombarding us from all angles every day, each little bit of analytic advantage that we can get could be worth a fortune. In addition, a better memory leads to less stress, greater organization and can dramatically improve your life both at home and at work.

However, you may think that if you have noticed your memory slipping that it is already too late. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In reality, your brain is a lot like a marathon runner or any other athlete. If it “eats” the right things and trains on a regular basis, then it can develop into a truly effective machine.

Here are three ways that you can naturally train your brain to improve your memory and reduce the stress that comes with forgetfulness and absentmindedness:

1. Practice remembering things
Whether you play memory games with your kids or just spend some time playing some online memory puzzles, practice will make perfect. As little as ten minutes a day can dramatically improve the way that you remember the locations of objects and the details of events and information.

2. Develop a system
Often we forget things because we do not have a system for committing them to memory. If you are at work struggling to meet a deadline, talking to a distressed teen on the phone who has just missed out on a big chance for a date and trying to find your calendar, then it is pretty likely that you will not remember that a co-worker stuck their head in to remind you to chip in for Betty’s going-away present. When someone tells you something that you need to commit to memory, try repeating it back or saying a catch-phrase that will bring it back to mind. For example, you might say “office responsibility Betty present.” This will help you commit the item to memory and make it more likely that you will recall it later.

3. Feed your brain
Now that you have started training your brain, it is time to feed it healthy meals. When it comes to memory, nothing is better than omega 3 fish oil fatty acids. You can get them in a simple salmon oil supplement that you take once a day. To learn more about omega 3 fatty acids and how they can help whip your entire mental and physical selves into shape, visit www.omega-3.us.

While walking barefoot across a rice field in Korea, Swiss engineer Karl Muller noticed that his back pain, a perennial problem for him, was much improved. He did some further research and found that the Masai tribesmen of Africa did not suffer from bad backs. They also display excellent posture.

Muller concluded that walking barefoot on soft, yielding ground was significantly better for your back and joints than walking on hard surfaces. He decided to develop a shoe which would reproduce the effect of walking on a soft surface such as sand or grass.

The end result was the Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) shoe. According to the company website, it is so different to conventional footwear that it merits the name of “anti-shoe”.

MBT shoes have a specially designed curved sole without a heel, which produces a gentle rolling action when your foot makes contact with the ground. It's just like walking on sand in your bare feet in fact. The use of materials of different densities also contributes to the effect by further lowering jarring and impact shock.

Independent scientific studies have verified that this is genuinely better for your back and joints. There are further proven benefits in addition to better posture. For instance, whilst engaged in normal walking in MBT shoes, the wearer’s muscles will be in use for longer (in comparison with similar walking in traditional shoes). The muscles are used for about 16% longer. Wearers also tend to “walk properly”, taking slightly shorter strides. Both of these effects mean that more work is done.

The result of this is that each and every step you take in MBT shoes provides you with additional exercise. It’s a lower body exercise session while you're walking. In addition to alleviating back pain and producing improved posture, MBT shoes also help to trim your buttocks and tone your legs.

You would think that would be enough wouldn’t you? However, despite all of these benefits some people find MBT shoes a little chunky and not very pleasing to the eye. They do cost a little more than normal shoes - but you may think that they're great value for money if you cure your back pain or get a workout. However, there are now other, more cosmetically appealing, alternatives available which use the same basic principles. Both Skechers Shape Ups and Fitflops have similar curved soles which are specially engineered to increase the muscle activity duration and tone your legs and buttocks whilst engaged in normal, everyday walking activity.

Whatever footwear you decide on, the potential to alleviate back and joint pain, whilst at the same time toning up your lower body – without the need to visit the gym – seems very attractive.

You may think that yoga is a recent exercise craze, but in fact, this practice has been around for centuries. Experts have found yoga poses carved in stone that date back as early as 3000 B.C. However, that's just what the physical evidence supports; in fact, scholars estimate that yoga has been around since the Stone Age.

You can see, then, that yoga has been used for its benefits almost since the beginning of time. The ancients had it right, too. Yoga's proponents don't just rave about its exercise benefits. Instead, it's a holistic approach to body or mind and spirit wellness that keeps everything in balance and therefore healthy -- and attractive, too.

The premise is that yoga focuses on the whole body as a structure. In addition, though, the mind and spirit are also incorporated, so that the three come together. Rather than focusing on overt strength or "muscle building" as other traditional exercises do (like weightlifting), yoga focuses on balance and flexibility as well as strength. It incorporates all three. Some yoga masters, in fact, state that those who have done traditional exercise programs like weightlifting are in fact very challenged by yoga because they don't normally focus on balance or flexibility -- nor do they focus on mind and spirit, either. Therefore, yoga is a holistic practice that makes you healthy, balanced, peaceful -- and strong -- by concentrating on the poses and incorporating other changes into your life as well.

Yoga's history

Yoga's history began with the Vedic period, where rituals and ceremonies were used to break free of the mind's limitations; this is also the core of Hinduism.

The Vedic period was followed by the Pre-Classical Yoga period, and among the things it introduced were the Upanishad scriptures, which further the Vedic teachings. This was followed by the Classical period, which introduced to the Yoga Sutra, the first attempt to standardize yoga practices.

Finally, this was followed by the Postclassical Yoga period, today's modern yoga. This practice focuses on living in the moment, proper relaxation and exercise, good nutrition, proper breathing, positive thinking, and meditation.

Yoga as exercise

What makes yoga today so successful as an exercise practice is its focus on core muscles. Because many of the "asanas" or poses specifically focus on core muscles, it also helps improve posture, which "opens up" the body and makes it easier to breathe, stand, and simply improve "flow."

Yoga has always focused on "perfect alignment," in which the spine returns to its natural positioning over time, as yoga is practiced. Because of yoga's focus, relaxation must actually be achieved at the same time as the asanas are being performed, which can be a challenge to those who have only done traditional exercise. Nonetheless, this "relaxation and focus" is key to yoga's benefits, and teach students concentration; as poses continue, focus can intensify to a meditative state.
