What is referred to as a premium yoga mat usually means an extra thick mat (although not always) or a mat that offers extra support and traction so that you won’t slip. Premium yoga mats boast durability and such features as a ‘unique waffle texture’ to enhance grip. A premium yoga mat may also mean an eco-friendly or organic choice of mat. Many companies who sell yoga mats have a ‘premium’ mat range.

When it comes to yoga mats, it really does come down to personal preference and it may be a bit of a trial and error game until you find the mat that is perfect for you. Although, premium yoga mats are a popular choice, you can’t ignore the fact that some people find no satisfaction with them and are happier with a ‘standard’ 1/8-inch sticky mat or perhaps an organic cotton yoga mat.

The idea of practicing yoga on a luxurious, soft and extra comfortable mat appeals to many people. Premium/Thick yoga mats generally mean extra cushioning usually without being too soft.

Usually the standard yoga mat size is 1/8-inch.2 mm) and what is referred to as the thick yoga mat is double this at 1/4-inch (6.4 mm). A premium yoga mat is a luxurious choice but have an open-heart and be prepared to trial and error a few mats before you find ‘the one’. Remember you can always, sell or giveaway the yoga mats you did not love and there are actually quite a few creative ways you can recycle or re-use yoga mats so you don’t feel so guilty about treating yourself to a premium yoga mat that enhances your yoga.

The better quality home gyms  have joints that are welded rather than bolted together with larger heavy-duty tubing. Look for a gym with a good warranty. Some of the higher quality home gyms have lifetime warranties but you should at least get a warranty for 3 years.

If you have found a quality home gym at a good price now make sure it is easy to use and adjust for different exercises. Changing the resistance can be awkward on some gyms so try to find one that makes this easier.  If it is too awkward to do this or too time consuming it can easily put you off your workout completely. A home fitness gym should have comfortable, well padded benches that can be cleaned easily. Convenience is not the only consideration here as you need seats and leg presses to be well padded to prevent injury and blisters.

If you are buying a fitness equipment home gym don't rush out and buy the first one you see. If it is possible try it out at a store or gym and find out all you can about how it works. Take your time as this is quite a large investment and you don't want to regret your purchase later.
