The music is bound to vary, so it helps to know the sort of music you want before you start downloading everything in sight. Different music has different purposes, so listen to a few samples to see what you find most appealing.  For meditation or slow yoga activities, a calming music download with natural sounds or slow quiet instrumentals is probably best.

A Calming Music Download Can Inspire Your Workout or Inner Work

When choosing which free yoga music to use, think about the purpose of your yoga session. This way, you will be free from distraction and can focus on technique. More complex music could prove to be distracting when you are trying to learn new poses or are trying out new breathing techniques.  Also, sometimes with the noise of a crowd or larger group, quiet intricacies of the music can be lost so it will be easier to hear the music if it has a stronger beat and bolder tones.

If choosing free yoga music for meditation, you may want to go with music that is repetitive but also quite subtle. This way, the music can drown out outside distractions but will not become the focus of your yoga session. Yoga is a great way to not only improve your physical health but also your mental health. The positions and breathing exercises are meant to not only improve your strength and flexibility but to also clear your mind so that you can focus on the important things and meditate on everything from your own life to the world around you. To help you with this meditation, you should take the time to download yoga music. Such music will help your mind and body relax enough so that you can really center yourself. Yoga meditation music will help a person move away from environmental distractions so that they can clear the mind and focus on what is important.

How Do You Plan To Use Your Yoga Meditation Music?

One of the first things to consider when it comes time to download yoga meditation music is the kind of yoga you will be practicing. Different forms of yoga will need or require different kinds of focus. For example, if you are doing a more meditative or inspiration focused form of yoga, you may want yoga meditation music that is not intrusive but surrounds you. What is Guided Meditation?  This meditation technique generally involves listening to
a voice (live or recorded on meditation CD) with your eyes closed as you relax your body and focus
your mind on vividly imagining the world described by the speaker.  If you've been attending yoga classes, you may find your instructor leading this type of exercise at the end of your sessions.

Often a guided meditation will have a specific purpose or goal in mind such as helping
you relax, helping you feel creative or artistic, or even helping to build your confidence
and see yourself as growing more like the person you want to become.   Guided relaxation can help you get rid of stress.

I went to some biofeedback relaxation sessions in which the instructor taught guided relaxation techniques.  It was so successful that the most high-strung insomniac member of our group repeatedly fell asleep during each session.  And she didn't relax easily!

Guided meditation is much like hypnosis in that it offers you suggestions on improving
your mental, physical and emotional state that are pleasant during the meditation session
itself, but have the propensity to stay with you even after the meditation is over
and even improve your quality of life over time as you adopt new beliefs and grow comfortable
with experiencing feelings of joy, creativity, relaxation and confidence.

Some people like to use guided meditation as a an exploratory process.  The guiding
voice may give vague suggestions which call upon the listener (the meditator) to "fill-in the blanks."
For example you might imagine wiping clean past hurts and replacing them with images
of happy, rewarding times in your life.  You might imagine a "Special place" where you
are very relaxed.  In this type of guided meditation, the guide can be fairly generic
and the technique allows whatever is important to you to come to the surface.

Alternatively, sometimes the meditation guide will bring you to very specific places
or people in your life.  "Imagine the times when you feel ashamed about your weight," or
"Remember the times that you have worried about how smoking can affect your health."  These
examples can evoke much more specific imagery that can help you address certain
problems in your life.  However, once these problems have been mostly resolved, the
guided meditation tapes pertaining to these specific topics may be less useful.

A third type of guided meditation is less "hypnosis" or "Self-improvement" focused and more
"spiritual" or "universal" in nature.  You might be guided through a fantasy world
including elements of nature such as forests, mountain tops, under-sea civilizations or
even outer-space.  Or you could experience a reminder for specific focus on relaxing
your body, focusing on a flame or even on melting snow. 

The key to being successful with guided meditation is to find out what style works for
you.  You want to find a guide who helps you relax and reach a calm meditative state
quickly and easily.  Next, you want to be sure that the journey the guide takes you
on is one that you find personally meaningful, relaxing or constructive.

I, myself. experimented with reading many different scripts for self-hypnosis and then
recording my own voice to create a customized "just for me" self-hypnosis journey
that I found personally meaningful.

Mind hypnosis is a topic that is shrouded in fear and misconception.  People wondering about
being hypnotized sometimes worry about revealing embarrassing personal secrets to their
hypnotist or becoming a trained zombie assassin who can be unknowingly forced to perform any number
of criminal tasks.

The truth is that being hypnotized will not make any fundamental changes to which you are
seriously opposed.  The process of mind hypnotized involves ALLOWING yourself to relax
and adapt a trance-like or meditative state.  You can not be hypnotized without your
own consent.  Whether you realize it or not, you probably enter this trance-like hypnotic
state every evening when you sit down in front of the TV for a few hours.  Your body
is relaxed and your mind is focused.  Advertisers love this because it means that you
are suggestible at that time.  This is one reason why TV advertising is so effective as compared
to other types of advertising.

Why not turn this common, everyday state of physical relaxation and mental focus into
something that works FOR you as YOU CHOOSE rather than simply opening yourself up for
whatever messages someone else wants to program you with.  Through working with a
registered hypnotherapist or working at home with self-hypnosis tapes you buy or make
yourself, you can begin to take responsibility for imbedding your own chosen beliefs
into your lifestyle and push out beliefs that you've held in the past which are not
beneficial for you.  People have used mind hypnosis to overcome phobias, quit smoking and lose weight
as well as develop confidence and self esteem.

 

Why do I discuss mind hypnosis here, on a site about yoga?  For this reason - in the
stages of light meditation which you are likely to experience during your yoga practice,  you generally enter a slight trance-like state similar to that reached in deeper mind hypnosis.

You may have experienced
this feeling before when you were reading a good book and didn't hear Mom call you for dinner.
You may also remember a time when you were driving and were surprised to realize you
had reached your destination because you had lost track of time.

One characteristic of this state (associated with alpha-pattern brain waves) is that you
are more suggestible here.  If you are struggling to keep your attention on your meditation
as you begin, you might try combining it with some guided meditations to relax you
or guided self-hypnosis sessions. These sessions will help you learn to relax, and give
you something constructive to focus on and to occupy your mind and distract you
as you learn to make time in your schedule for your meditation practice or for those
times when you find that there's something very specific in your life that you
are trying to overcome.

Mind hypnosis and guided meditation are excellent compliments to a traditional meditation or yoga
practice.
