The Benefits of Indian Yoga Music

Indian Yoga Music

One of the things I really like about yoga is the exotic, ancient appeal of this holistic health practice and way of life.  I can often imagine myself following in the footsteps of ancient yogis and doing the asanas in distant lands.  I think one of the most fun ways to transport yourself with your imagination while you are practicing yoga is to listen to Indian yoga music.  India is a country rich with tradition, religion, foot, heat, people and music.  Good Indian yoga music CD's can evoke all of these elements, while still helping you have a replenishing workout right here at home.

If you are interested in practicing yoga, you should consider everything from how you will learn (by taking yoga classes, reading books, or following along with yoga training videos) to the yoga mat you will use. Since focus is an integral piece of yoga, you should definitely take the time to hunt down music to help you stay focused while you are exercising, breathing and meditating. One of the best kinds of music to invest in for this purpose is Indian yoga music. This music will help the body relax enough so that you can really focus on your poses and thoughts. The following are some of the many benefits of listening to and enjoying Indian yoga music during your workout.   However, Indian music is sufficiently captivating, that I find myself wanting to enjoy it at other times, too!

Your Body and Mind Love Indian Yoga Music!

One of the best things about Indian yoga music is that it can physically relax the body. A person's cells are sensitive to sound. Thus, when you play Indian yoga music while doing yoga, you can be sure to enhance the experience. The more relaxed your body is, the better able you will be to stretch and not only move into different yoga poses but maintain them. If your body can relax, then you can focus on your thoughts and emotions. Thus, Indian yoga music makes the yoga experience that much easier and more meaningful.  Plus, research shows that we can exercise longer while listening to music, so if you enjoy your music while you are working out, the time will fly by and you may find yourself holding poses even longer and more easily than you had before.

Yoga Music Has Wonderful Meditative Qualities

When doing yoga, playing Indian yoga music can help you focus on what is going on in your mind versus in the environment around you. This means that you could do everything from work out an issue in your life to reflect on some of the more meaningful moments in your experience. Thus, Indian yoga music facilitates the meditation process because it drowns out the outside world and really allows a person to focus on what they are thinking, why they are thinking it, and what the effect of these thoughts is on the self and the people around them.

Evocative Indian Music Sparks Many Emotions and Memories

If you play Indian yoga music while doing yoga, you just might discover an emotion or memory that you weren't before aware of. Such emotions and memories can really help with self-reflection. The music can calm the body and mind enough to open the flood gates. Thus, Indian yoga music helps a person tap into their subconscious mind as well as treating their conscious mind to a real delight for the senses.

Music truly has the power to move us.  It can help us heal, create a happy or sad mood, and allow our bodies to tolerate exercise and stress more easily.  With all these benefits, its clear that music, especially Indian yoga music, is a great choice to accompany your yoga workouts.  Indian yoga music is a step away from the same old remixed tunes you get in aerobics class.  It's an art form that transcends time and space to help you live as you wish, here in the moment.

Why Yoga Music?

If you want a truly enriching and relaxing way to work out your mind and body, then you should consider practicing yoga. The poses and breathing exercises that make up yoga are bound to make you feel centered, energized, and healthy. One of the most important pieces of yoga is not just the fancy yoga clothes or your instruction (whether in class or on a yoga fitness workout DVD) but also the music you use listen to during your workout sessions. Yoga-focused music can really relax your mind and body and enhance your ability to focus on everything from the poses to your thoughts, to your work the next day. You can find yoga music just about anywhere. You can find it for free, or you can invest in music by some of the world's premier experts. If you want to download yoga music, all you have to do is look around you, and you will be sure to find some excellent sounds to help enhance your yoga experience.

Should You Buy Yoga Music CD's In Stores?

Yoga is fast becoming one of the most popular activities in the world. Thus, because of its increasing popularity, you can find a big selection of yoga music CDs at the majority of music stores. Always make sure to ask for suggestions before you walk into a store looking for such music. This way, you can be sure to invest in work that really will help you focus and meditate.  If you want an even bigger selection though, nothing beats the long tail of the web!

The hardest thing about choosing some nice soothing yoga music is not knowing an artist or group that you like.  Keep an ear out when you go to yoga class or play your yoga videos.  If you hear someone you like, find out who the artist is, then you can research them and download yoga music from that group in particular.

Buying Yoga Music Online: Yoga Music Download Selection Is Best On The Internet

One of the best places to find yoga music online is still from the Internet. Here, you can find or download yoga music from around the world. No matter your interests, there is sure to be some music that will fit what you need.  Everything from complex instrumental pieces to more repetitive pieces or even modern music with lyrics. Take your time to look around before you download yoga music. This way, you know what's out there before you invest in any one artist. Take the time to look into name brand stores and venues online as well as more independent or smaller websites. There are many places from which you can download yoga music. Some of these tunes will be free whereas others may cost a fee. I have found YouTube to be a good place to find short audio clips (ten minutes or so) of different yoga music musicians, so you can see what's available and what you like.  Then you can go to their website for details on how to buy the album or download the yoga music directly.

Different kinds of yoga and different focuses will affect the music you download. It makes a lot of sense to try a variety of yoga music arrangements, and even buy several depending on what the music will be used for.  We all have higher- and lower-energy days and yoga workouts.  It's nice to be able to tailor your music selection to your mood, the weather, how strong you feel, and whether you want your yoga workout to be fast and higher energy or slower and more meditative.  Music helps you control the atmosphere, your workout, and your emotions so shop around and choose carefully!

Get Your Free Yoga Music

Listing to a calming music download can be a great way to unwind after a busy day, meditate, or go through some asanas as you listen to soothing yoga music.  While most albums of yoga music have a cost, you can download some tracks as samples for free, or get them for a cheap price when you buy one tune at a time.  Also, some artists who are trying to have their music become better known give it away for free as a way to help build the buzz and boost the popularity of their band.

Practicing yoga is a great activity for people who want to clear their minds, center themselves, and get fit. The best part is that people of all ages and backgrounds can learn yoga positions that will improve the functioning of their mind and body. If you want to get involved with yoga, you should take the time to look into yoga meditation music. Music really will enhance the yoga experience. It not only helps people stay focused, but it can help steady a person's breathing and relax the mind and body. If you take the time to do your research and know where to look, you can find free yoga music to make the experience that much more enjoyable. The following are some things to consider when it comes time to choose your free yoga music.

Looking for Free Yoga Music Online

One of the best places to find free yoga music is on the Internet. All you have to do is perform a basic Internet search or to visit a yoga-focused website like this one, and you should find a plethora of resources for free yoga music. The music is bound to vary, so it helps to know the sort of music you want before you start downloading everything in sight. Different music has different purposes, so listen to a few samples to see what you find most appealing.  For meditation or slow yoga activities, a calming music download with natural sounds or slow quiet instrumentals is probably best.

A Calming Music Download Can Inspire Your Workout or Inner Work

When choosing which free yoga music to use, think about the purpose of your yoga session. If you are doing yoga as a form of meditation or to relax, you may want to choose music that has inspirational lyrics or a variety of different rhythms to help you experience a variety of emotions and thought patterns throughout your sessions. This will help your mind wander so that it can think about everything from your life and memories to thoughts about the world as a whole.  Also, I have found that it's a wonderful change as you exercise to use slower meditative music (your exercises will take a different level of challenge if you do them super-slow rather than at your regular speed) than your usual fast-paced "energizing" music.

Group Exercises May Suggest A Different Type Of Music

If choosing free yoga music for a group environment or for more complex forms of yoga, you may want to focus on music that is repetitive by nature and simple. This way, you will be free from distraction and can focus on technique. More complex music could prove to be distracting when you are trying to learn new poses or are trying out new breathing techniques.  Also, sometimes with the noise of a crowd or larger group, quiet intricacies of the music can be lost so it will be easier to hear the music if it has a stronger beat and bolder tones.

Yoga Meditation Music

If choosing free yoga music for meditation, you may want to go with music that is repetitive but also quite subtle. This way, the music can drown out outside distractions but will not become the focus of your yoga session. Instead, the subtle background music can help a person relax, can surround the individual, and can help a person find both a mental and physical sense of center.   You may also want to try Holosync meditation CD's if you are serious about achieving a deep meditative state.

The bottom line is that there are all types of free yoga music available.  Soothing yoga music and calming music downloads are a great place to start looking.  These tunes can really help you enjoy your relaxing yoga time, and you may find you like the music so much, you're listening to it on your way to work or around the house, too!

Yoga Meditation Music

Although many people think of yoga as a form of fitness workout, the ancient practice of yoga comprises many health-oriented practices including exercise, deep breathing, and meditation.  Although many yoga classes incorporate some elements of meditation in their workout routines, learning how to meditate can really be a class unto itself.  Many people who meditate spend 30-60 minutes per day on the practice for the best results.

Yoga is a great way to not only improve your physical health but also your mental health. The positions and breathing exercises are meant to not only improve your strength and flexibility but to also clear your mind so that you can focus on the important things and meditate on everything from your own life to the world around you. To help you with this meditation, you should take the time to download yoga music. Such music will help your mind and body relax enough so that you can really center yourself. Yoga meditation music will help a person move away from environmental distractions so that they can clear the mind and focus on what is important.

How Do You Plan To Use Your Yoga Meditation Music?

One of the first things to consider when it comes time to download yoga meditation music is the kind of yoga you will be practicing. Different forms of yoga will need or require different kinds of focus. For example, if you are doing a more meditative or inspiration focused form of yoga, you may want yoga meditation music that is not intrusive but surrounds you. In this situation, it may help you to hear the same sound periodically – a flute, a gong, or drum are all great choices – because it will help you focus on what's important: your mind and the poses. Additionally, if you are learning a new yoga pose or are in a group setting, you may want music that you barely notice because you want to limit external distractions.

Personally, when I meditate, I use Holosync meditation CD's to ensure I get myself relaxed and focused for the most productive and efficient use of time.  That makes meditation more rewarding for me.

Active Yoga Workout Music Can Still Be Used During Meditation

Different music creates a different sense of atmosphere. Thus, when you choose yoga meditation music, you should think about the kind of atmosphere you are going for. If you want a more active form of yoga, you may want to go for a quick drum-like form of yoga meditation music, and if you are looking for something more peaceful or relaxing, then you might want to go for yoga meditation music that centers around harps and string instruments.

Incorporate Your Own Personal Tastes

The more you do yoga and the more music you listen to, the more you will know about your personal tastes in regards to yoga meditation music. You may find with time that you enjoy music with words, or you may discover you find drums more effective to strings or vice versa. Pay attention to how your mind and body respond to different forms of yoga meditation music, and it will help you narrow down your hunt.

If you haven't already, you might try a few of my favorites - experiment with listening to nature sounds on CD or Indian yoga music for a fun cultural flair.

Power Yoga CD’s

Posted by: emily | Comments (3)

If you've been enjoying a power yoga practice at home with a power yoga video, or in a power yoga class at a studio, you may be enjoying your workout, but looking for a more relaxing way to get fit outside the confines of your living room or a class room.  Listening to a power yoga CD is a great way to relax and stay on target with your yoga workout, even if it's taking place outside in your back yard, on the beach, on a camping trip, or on vacation.  Even if you're not looking for such a dramatic yoga setting, and just want the freedom to go through your yoga poses at your own pace at home, or on business trips, working out with a power yoga CD is a great way to go.

Warning: Power Yoga CDs are not always the best choice.

For those that are beginners in the practice of yoga, a power yoga CD is probably not the best choice to start with.  Power yoga CD's can be beneficial for those that are familiar with the practice of yoga since they already know the poses and can understand just from listening to the instructions on the power yoga CD.  However, for those that are not familiar with yoga, the power yoga CD will sound like another language - Sanskrit perhaps! - with the names of the asanas making no sense.  A better choice for a beginner would be to buy a power yoga video or to go to a power yoga class where you can see how the poses are supposed to look, and the instructor can make corrections to the way you execute the various yogic poses.

What Types Of Power Yoga CD's are Available?

There are a couple of different types of power yoga CD's.

  1. Guided Workout: There are some power yoga CD's that will lead the students through an entire power yoga workout.  The instructor will give the instructions about moving from one pose to the next as well as tips to holding the pose properly.  These power yoga CD's are great workouts for those that are more experienced in the practice of yoga and can give a quick workout at home for those that do not have the time or ability to go to a class in a studio.
  2. Guided Meditation: There are other power yoga CD's that can be used by beginners or experienced practitioners alike.  These CD's take students through some meditations and meditation techniques that can help to relieve stress in their lives and give them a quick break from reality.  Many who practice yoga like it for the way they learn to breathe and relax the muscles in their bodies so that they are not as tense as a whole.
  3. Yoga Music Only: A third type of power yoga CD involves just listening to music.  If your instructor uses a play list in class, you may be able to get a list of the songs she uses and assemble a tape of your own to reinforce what you've learned in class.  Most commercially available power yoga CD's will feature music without words - often of Indian origin or influence, although this is purely subjective.  If you can, try to listen to a few tracks on a power yoga CD before you buy it, so you can assess whether you will enjoy working out to the music.

Often, no matter what type of Power Yoga CD you get, it can end up being a little boring to workout to the same routine every day, so get a few different yoga CD's to vary your workout, or sprinkle in workouts with yoga DVD's or yoga classes, for maximum variety.

As you know, yoga is a highly personal practice, so make it fun and relaxed.  Go at your own pace (no matter what the instructor says on the CD or DVD that is guiding you) and breath and relax.  This is for YOU.  Make it your time.
