Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Exercise

By emily

A lot of times it can be difficult for people with chronic fatigue syndrome to get up and go about their day, much less get any exersize.  Nevertheless, studies show that moderate exercise reduces exhaustion in those with this illness.  So how do you get up every day and do a little exercise, especially when you feel so exhausted?

For starters, make sure that any exercise that you decide to undertake is light as opposed to extreme.  Doing something simple such as walking 20 minutes a day is more than sufficient in order to keep in shape without causing further tiredness.

You may also want to take a break for a few minutes after ten minutes of exercise in order to not strain yourself and make the exercise regimen easier. It is important to measure the exercise level that you are comfortable with, and some people may be able to exercise longer whereas others will have a more difficult time.

Another good idea is to exercise in clumps, where you can do 5 minutes of exercise in the morning, five later on, and perhaps 10 minutes in the evening before you go to bed, and there is no problem with splitting up your exersize time throughout the day.

Rather than vigorous exercise with chronic fatigue syndrome, it is usually a good idea to use toning and stretching in order to make sure that you are flexible and to build your stamina. Improving range of movement is important in addition to improving the circulation within the body.  Keep in mind that you may not be able to work up to your full potential overnight and it may take months to reach your desired level of activity.

Another factor that should dictate what kind of exercises you should do is whether your symptoms are mild or moderate and here are some more that you should try.

Ballroom dancing and bicycle riding are two great activities, but they may be too strenuous for individuals with moderate to severe forms of this illness.  Tai chi and other forms of stretching and light toning also make for great exercise.  {Golfing if you are utilizing a cart is also good exercise and softball or walking in a park also makes for a good time.}

Maybe you also want to just work an exercise regimen into your daily routine?  Simply walking your dog or walking around an office building during a lunch break is usually sufficient in order to get an adequate amount of exercise.  Just work a little bit of extra activity into your day.

Keep in mind that if you truly want to beat chronic fatigue syndrome you will have to try to a number of actions in order to reduce your symptoms of fatigue.  Working a healthy exercise regimen into your day will greatly improve your symptoms and make you feel better about life.
