Considerations When Choosing a Home Fitness Gym

An advantage of having your own home fitness gym is the convenience of having your own workout place at home so that you don’t have to go outside to a gym. If you are uncomfortable exercising with other people you can workout in private, at home. Consider a few points before you purchase your gym so that you choose wisely.

Things to Take into Consideration

  • How much space is available in your home? A large amount of space plus a firm base is needed for your home fitness gym.
  • Consider your budget? You can pay as little as $500 to as much as $5000 for a top quality, comprehensive, multi station home gym.
  • Which system should you choose? A resistance system using rods, built in weights or cables or a free weight system?

Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Fitness Gyms

With a home gym you can, of course, work out in private in your own home, the gym is always available and you won’t have to wait until someone else finishes before you can do your training. Your home gym is ready to use whenever you need it and there won't be any monthly club fees to pay. These are great advantages but consider the disadvantages as well. Some home gyms may be hard to set up initially and can take up a good amount of space. A home machine is always available and it can be easy to think 'I'll exercise tomorrow' instead of getting on with it today!

Choosing a Home Fitness Gym

The most important consideration, in our opinion, is how well made the unit is. Don't be tempted by cheap, poorly constructed gyms that are not going to give you a good workout or last very long.. This isn't a money saver over a long period. Well constructed gyms that use 11 or 12 gauge steel are the ones to look out for. The better quality home gyms  have joints that are welded rather than bolted together with larger heavy-duty tubing. Look for a gym with a good warranty. Some of the higher quality home gyms have lifetime warranties but you should at least get a warranty for 3 years.

If you have found a quality home gym at a good price now make sure it is easy to use and adjust for different exercises. Changing the resistance can be awkward on some gyms so try to find one that makes this easier.  If it is too awkward to do this or too time consuming it can easily put you off your workout completely. A home fitness gym should have comfortable, well padded benches that can be cleaned easily. Convenience is not the only consideration here as you need seats and leg presses to be well padded to prevent injury and blisters.

Conclusion

If you are buying a fitness equipment home gym don't rush out and buy the first one you see. If it is possible try it out at a store or gym and find out all you can about how it works. Take your time as this is quite a large investment and you don't want to regret your purchase later.
